"'m a 20 year-old saxophonist and guitarist, currently based in London. Since picking up the sax and guitar at age 7, I've been lucky enough to share the stage with a wide range of international artists, such as Bellowhead, UK sax legend Pete King and Sugarhill Gangmember Skip McDonald. Performing at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Latitude Festival, London Olympic Park as well as opportunities to perform with world class bands such as Derek Nash's Protect the Beat and the Simon Bates Big Band, conducted by renowned composer Howard Blake.

I'm currently studying full-time on the jazz course at London's Royal Academy of Music, as well as playing and writing for a wide range of different bands and projects including my own jazz/funk trio, big band work and an array of funk/soul bands, including MD'ing for ex-Drifter Maurice Cannon. I also play baritone sax/guitar in London-based West African/funk fusion band 'Afrik Bawantu,' led by Ghanaian percussion master Afla Sackey. Performance highlights with this band include performing at the 50th anniversary celebration of the BBC World Service, as well as many festivals around the UK and Europe. We're currently putting the finishing touches to the second album, 'It's Not Easy.'

I'm currently guitarist for the the Ashton Jones Project, a hard-working, high-energy funk band for which I'm co-writing and arranging the debut album.

​

Pianist/producer Chris Ingham has also involved me as a guest on his latest quartet project, celebrating the music of Dudley Moore. The 16-track album, 'Dudley' has received critical acclaim from the Guardian and the Observer among others, and our show at Pizza Express, Soho went down a storm. 

​

I'm very excited to be a member of a hard-bop quintet, the 'Barford-Stoneman Organ Quintet,' showcasing the music of Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan and Eddie Harris among others. We're very much looking forward to supporting Liane Carroll, Claire Martin and Clare Teal and the Ella Fitzgerald centenary celebration at St John Smith's Square as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.

Ex-Suzi Quatro guitarist and Cockney Rebel member Robbie Gladwell has also involved me in his band for many years, performing at a huge variety of venues across the UK as well as an annual 3-night charity event in aid of Cancer Research UK. It was when I first started playing with Robbie I had the opportunity to sign an endorsing artists contract with German amplifier company Hughes&Kettner.

Atila at Jazznights with Roger Odell, Simon Brown, Bernie Hodgkins and Larraine Odell at the Bell Hotel, Clare on Sunday 15th April 2018

Atila is an established Jazz singer from the UK. Sartorially stylish and musically classy, his interpretations of the American Songbook are internationally renowned, taking influence from early Frank Sinatra. “I was very impressed with his singing, he has a real feel for the lyric” Sir Michael Parkinson.

Atila started his professional career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra with whom he performed with Benny Golson on the Norwegian Sun Jazz Cruise and was featured on the album ‘Something Old, Something New’ (NYJCD023). He has recorded many times since, Including ‘How do you keep the music playing’ in collaboration with Evan Jolly, ‘Hello Young Lovers’ produced by Rupert Christie, ‘Your’s Tonight’ EP produced by Tommy Laurence featuring some of Atila’s lyrics, and most recently ‘King for a Day’, a tribute to the Nat Cole Trio.

Atila has toured extensively with the legendary Buddy Greco, jointly appearing on BBC radio 2 with the John Wilson Big Band at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Buddy said, “I was knocked out by Atila. He has the voice and the class to show the world what great music is all about”. He has given sold out shows at Ronnie Scott’s, The Hippodrome Casino London and The Stable Wavendon, and was invited to America to sing ‘The Nelson Riddle Story’ by the Nelson Riddle Foundation.

Atila has a busy and varied career in private events and commercial performances, including the 2014 Qatar Choice awards, Dermot O’Leary’s wedding party and the Turkish International Film Festival 2013. He has appeared on ‘The Alan Titchmarsh Show’ ITV, ‘Stepping Out’ ITV, and sung for the 2012 Emirates television advertising campaign, amongst others. “I could sit and listen to you all day” Pete Waterman.

Following the Jazznights raffle of three jazz cds we had our traditional sitting in spot where local musicians can have the opportunity to sit in with the resident band. Tonight we had Geoff Harriman with his harmonica and Brian Stapley on drums playing All Of Me which was followed by Sara Hawkes on vocals together with Martin Guy on drums singing and playing It Might As Well Be Spring.

Chris Rand with the Jazznights Trio: Roger Odell, Bernie Hodgkins and Dan Banks at the Bell Hotel, Clare on Sunday 1st April 2018

London based Saxophonist Chris Rand grew up on the south coast of Dorset. He moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music. Chris quickly became one of the UK’s top saxophone side men playing and recording throughout the world with many of UK’s top Jazz and Blues artists.

Chris has performed with the Rolling Stones Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, and has performed as guest artist with George Porter Jr (The Meters) and Guitarists Mick Taylor and Chris Jagger. Chris has also performed together with guitarist Elliot Randall (Steely

Dan, Blues Brothers) as well as Sax player Davey Payne (Ian Dury and the Blockheads). Chris has also been part of the Bad Manners crew, performing at

festivals in the UK, Spain and Russia. He is also been a part of the Ben Waters Band for many years, and most recently, Chris has been working with British blues band Nine Below Zero, where he made his first appearance this year with the band at Glastonbury Festival.

In 2014 Chris formed his own quartet “The Chris Rand Quartet” as a vehicle for his own compositions. January 2016 will see the world wide release of his Debut CD

“Gathering” (Dot Time Records DT9047). The CD features a series of original compositions influenced by all the various styles Chris has been inspired from over the years. Guesting with Chris on “Gathering” is Derek Nash, Dave Green and Ben Waters!

Some of the venues Chris has performed at include Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express Jazz Club, Boarderline, Bulls Head Jazz Club and 100 Club. In addition Chris has performed at festivals including London Jazz, Camp Bestival, Larma Tree, Swanage Jazz, Colne Blues, Ealing Blues, Ray Davis’ Meltdown Festival, Chilfest and Wychwood festival.
